This is a much talked about project and unless you have unlimited funds it is not worth the cost.
The only engine that will just drop in and bolt up is a LR 200tdi or a 300tdi which you will have to source from out of the country.
With the US dollar being worth next to nothing and cost of the engine, even used, and then shipping will cost you more than your truck is worth.
Even then you will still need the intercooler for the "new" engine.

The diesel engines used in the current light truck market are essentially medium duty engines. They are going to be way too heavy for your suspension and produce way more torque than your drivetrain can handle. Your best option would be to have a Rover diesel brought over from UK and swap that in. You're going to spend many times what the truck is worth to convert it to diesel.
What part of Alaska are you in?

thanks for the input. Kind of what I figured but thought I would ask around as I have seen diesel conversions on series and defenders but nothing on Discos. As for 98roverguy, I happen to like my rover especially the lift and all the rest of the stuff I have done to it and finding a diesel up here is near impossible. Fairbanks is not exactly close to anything. I dont recall asking for any smart *** remarks in my post.
Thank you all for your time.

In the UK more than a few people use the GM 6.2 V8 diesel in D-90's.
The last one I read about was in Land Rover Monthly.
You can find it at www.lrm.com.uk
The owner even came to the US to Utah, that may help track it down.

It would be great but for the lack of power of a 4 cly diesel that
would take a update to make power.
I'm a diesel fan but I want more than mileage out of a diesel.
