Default 1996 Discovery Dome light not coming ON when opening doors

Hello all,

When I turn the dome switch to ON, the light is ON and bright. However, then putting the switch in the middle, not ON, not OFF position. The dome light does not come on whenanydoorsare opened.

Any ideas?

Another gremlin to work out.

The button on your door jamb is sticking.
Lube it.

You painted your headliner????

Your front dome lamp has two hot leads. One wire is a smaller diameter than the other. Why who knows? One is hot for all on. The other is on the dimmer circuit.

The switch is a simple mechanical switch... pull it and check if one of the wires was in advertantly removed on re-install of the overhead fascia. Or may be it snapped off. 12 - 14 year old wires can get brittle.

I am having the same problem with my dome lights and will look this over. Thanks for the info.

My headliner is sagging. Do you happen to have any pics of the painted headliner and how tough was it to do?

Thanks.

Yeah I'd like to see pics of a "painted" headliner as well...

I found pictures doing a search. I will be doing mine like this too. Looks very nice.

My lights are also not coming on when I open the driver's door, but all the others work fine. I will try to lube the switch, but because it is only one, I would think it could also be the switch.

Do you happen to know a website, or do you happen to have something that has step by step instructions on how to paint the headliner? Does it need to come out to be painted?

Yes, you need to remove the cloth clean off the glue prep the surface and paint it.
