Im lookin for a 1998 disvovery v8 in the ES version which is the highest here in sweden. My questions now are what things do i specifically have to look for when i buy it? is there any obvious problems that i can see and warn me about huge costs? Im not looking at any real winter bangers, i found a rust free 1998 es which has gone 100000miles has full service history and even comes with an extra insurance for 6 months(including gear box faults etc...)
Im not planning on taking it for serious offroading i want to have it as a save car for my family.
I know land rovers can be expensive to maintain but i think if your a bit handy(plus i can lift the car up at work) and buy spare parts online from ebay uk it cant be that much worse.
I also heard that people say that they are not reliable but i think that more depends on people who do not take care of their cars or dont have money to spare parts and then sell them that way. All cars loose reliabilty if you dont maintain them propery.
Oh yeah the prize tag was about 5000$

First, the price is great, 98 was a good year, and the last build year for the D1's. Some people moan and groan about prices for repairs, but when you confront them they wouldn't sell their truck for the world.
In general it is a VERY safe truck, it is a little tempermental but overall, one of the best vehicles you can buy.
