Default 1999 DII - Fan & Clutch ?'s

OK - the 'Never-Ending Story' might be coming to an end...

I changed the thermostat, had the radiator checked (came back perfect) had the heads checked (came back perfect) replaced the water pump, replace the head gaskets and head bolts and it still overheats (I am a guru about how to correctly bleed the damn system seeing I have done it like 25 times already!!!!!!)

Sooooo, my guy was noticing that the fan on the engine spins a little too lose when he turns it by hand. He then played with it a little more and said "start the engine while I hold the fan blade" - I told him he is out of his f-ing mind, but hey, it was his fingers - right???

Well, the engine started, and the fan didn't move....

Sooooo, we can assume that the fan (and/or clutch) is shot.... right?

BTW - he is a mechanic and later told me he was 99.9% sure that the fan WAS NOT going to spin. I told him I didn't want to see what the 0.1% would have caused....

Thanks!!

The colder the fanclutch gets, the easier it freewheels (I've never seen one with zero drag, tho")

The hotter, the more lockup.

You can often hear the difference.

I threw mine out, (bad bearing) and installed electric.

luck,greg

Yeah - no matter how hot the engine (or temp gauge) got - I never heard a click or any other noise from the fan. It seems to be really loose.

I searched and searched, is there any 'How To's' on swapping out the clutch on these fans? (the only ones I have seen are for the D1's).

Thanks!
