Question 1999 disco 3.9i

my son inBotswana has an imported 3.91 which has been played with ie there is a small hose from rocker box cover swinging in the breee with no obvious connection ,,any ideas. the second one is first start up of the day brake pedal goes down to floor, after a drive brakes appear normal pressure.i am suggesting servo vaccuum pump.
Also there is a switch with a road going into a tunnel logo on it ,switch it and it lights up with no obvious effect on anything,,am awaiting for an e manual but any clues.

Download the manual from here: http://www.landroverresource.com/
Don't press that switch on the dash unless you are on a highway and approaching an overpass.

That highway button on the dash is your cruise control, not of much use in Botswana I recon with all the goats and donkeys roaming around.
Just to get facts straight, if you have a 3.9l engine then either the original 4.0l engine was swapped out, or you don't have a 1999 Disco 2. I'm not 100% sure about all the engine variations that come out in other parts of the world, but I think you might have a 1998 (or older) Disco 1. The point is that the engines differ and the hoses are different. If you can post photos showing the engine and the hose in question then maybe someone will be able to help you out.

The 3.9 was discontinued in 95. The 96 model year was the first year to use the distributorless ignition which is the only difference between the 3.9 and 4.0.

Remember he's not in the USA, the 3.9l was used up to 1998 in other parts of the world. You are correct in terms of the NAS spec models.

Yes the 3.9 was ran until late '98 early '99 in the DI.
He probably does not have catalytic converters either.

As for the cruise, push that button in and leave it alone, it is the master power switch for the cruise control.
To set the cruise there are 2 buttons on the steering wheel, top one is for "set", bottom one is for "resume".

As for the hose swinging in the breeze, that is for the brake master cylinder, you should see a empty spot on the master cylinder, hook the hose back up to it and your brakes should come back.
