Well it's that time of year again it. Seems every year I put at least $1k in repairs on my daughters disco II. Last year the tranny and transfer went south and the SRS came on. I paid the $2300 for the drive line repair but put the SRS fix off. The mechanic said the computer showed the aluminum coil spring in the sterring column bad. I can't remeber what this thing is called but last year when I looked it up on line I know it was over $200. Does anyone know what this is called and if it's possible to install in the home garage without special tools?

Next problem is the check engine light came on and when I drove it I could tell it wasn't firing on all cylinders. I put new AP64 plugs in it gapped at .032, disconnected the battery while I was doing it. The old plugs where very worn looking with the gag of about .060. Well it ran great after taking it for a test ride. Still seems ok but the check engine light came on again. Is it normal for the light to come on again with no faults? I was under the impression that it would stay off until the computer picked up another new fault. Thanks for any help.
