1999 Discovery II SLS Replacement - The Mystery Result
Hello friends. Thank you in advance for taking to time to read about my dilemma.
I have a 99 DII we have had since new. She still runs great and only has 96K miles. A few months ago I felt it was time to do a little maintenance on the SLS seeing that it has been working ok for the past 10 + years.
Before we get much further rest assured I know of the joys members have expressed associated with their spring coversion kits. More power to them, but this is not for me. Also, I have been a dutiful study of these forums and purchased the Land Rover Discovery Workshop Manual for reference.
I set out to replace the entire SLS system so we could enjoy many more years of use from this particular DII. I removed the compressor unit and replaced with a new unit. I replaced both rear air struts with the new Dunlop easy insert units. I replaced both rear sensors with new units. I also replaced the SLS breaker located under the hood for good measure.
Now, here is my issue at hand. All reassembled the system with all new parts and she seems to operate fine (sensors reporting and compressor running) but she refuses to get off her laurels. I have ensured the new air struts are enflating evenly (no folds) and the struts (both) actually get air but only to a minimum point to give them firmness. Not enough pressure to lift the rear end. Spraying soapy water liberally on the struts and air block does not yield any air bubbles. Suspecting the air block I also purchased a new air block to use to test the system. Still no bubbles but same results.
So, completely reassembled she sits out front sadly on her bumpers. Does anyone have any thoughts? I am a little befuddled as I expected it to work well having replaced all major components.

Amazing. That did it. Put the old sensors back on and POOF, Works great! Thank you - thank you - thank you. I am immenseley relieved. Putting the old sensors back in never occurred to me.
Just for my information though... do the sensors need calibrating separately from the calibration on the car? What did I miss? Can you offer any backstory?

But now I have another issue, that I am hoping you can help me with.
Not long ago I started having issues with the rear right (Passenger side) Air Bag not lifting or not keeping the air in, checked and yes it was porous.
I ordered the replacement Arnott ones last week and got them in, I replaced both bags as you had suggested on a different thread I read, to do both not only one. Both off these were exchanged two or maybe three days ago.
Now here is my dilemma, when I start the engine, the SLS light is permanently on and I can lightly hear and feel the air pump kick on under my feet but the suspension on the left side (Drivers side) is not inflating at all, the right one inflates very little, the front of the vehicle is lifted all up as in Off Road mode, I am baffled as I do not know what to do any more to get the suspension working as it did before, I checked for air leaks, soapy water all hoses are tightly in place,
do you have any recommendations on how I can reset the ride height computer or SLS sensor so the light goes OFF and the system pumps the suspension back up the way it's supposed too, thank you and hope to hear from you soon, have a great day.
Mike, thanks in advance for any guidance, I am off this weekend from work if you have time I will be here to answer the phone, thank once more and have a great day.
