Another thing that might be affected by a cold or warm engine, and can turn off the Fuel Pump if no signal is sensed, is a failing Crank Position Sensor.

Thank you, is there a way to test if that's happening or is this just something I should replace and see if it helps?

A quick test is to crank the motor when it's not starting. If the Tachometer does not move when you crank, it could be sensor. There's other tests that use an Ohm meter that might be more scientific.

I don't remember if the Disco uses Camshaft Position Sensors also, but they can cause similar issues. I don't have my Disco anymore... 😔

Ok thank you, I believe they do use camshaft position sensors as well. I will test the tach way first.

Starting the engine cold this morning and the tach does not move while turning it over. I let it warm up and then shut it off and tried again and it still did not move.

I had this very same issue for a very long time. One day my fuel pump died on the highway. I ended up replacing the entire basket with a used assembly. Upon start up the issue disappeared. Good luck.

Hi Boostle, thanks for the response, by basket do you mean the whole fuel pump assembly?

I honestly think I got two back fuel pumps because the problem only started once I put in a new one.

Yessir. I grabbed one off eBay and just swapped it out. To my surprise the cranking problem disappeared.
