Does anyone second this idea? I kinda like it. I can get a used one with torque. Converter for $255 plus $75 core and tax. It has 136k, 90 day warranty.. Could even keep the other one and rebuild it if needed later for the 75 bucks.. What do you think?

No codes... The damn thing just stopped going that day.
Dusty, the 3 Amigos are lit up but they where on before from a beautiful day when a wire ripped out of the bead in a tire and went nuts..

I'm going to open it up tomorrow and get a peek inside. I will make my final decision tomorrow as well. If anyone has any final input before I do something completely stupid, please share. The used tranny will cost me $353.10 total minus the $75 core at a later date. Or the other option is to replace a bunch of parts that in not sure about. Maybe the whining will also go away with the complete tranny as I have heard that could be caused by the pump, torque converter or even a clogged filter which will all be replaced.

Drowssap, I'm betting the tranny will take me longer than a day if that's the route taken!

Make sure you go through the transmission (filter, seals, etc) before you go through the effort of installing it.

Do you second the idea of putting the used transmission in Racer X?

I have been folloving this tread but dont know much about inside of rover ZF so i didnt make suggestion how to fix , let the ones that know a lot more about this than me give u advice how to fix it , (BUT putting in used tranny is best idea ,) changing filter and fluid B4 inst. also best idea, also before buying tranny if possible check fluid color or whatever left inside used one , don't want it burned and dirty , neither brand new fluid which will tell U something!! Good luck it's a lot of work.
