Well, I've driven a few miles now with the new O2 sensors installed - Not nearly enough for any kind of milage check yet... However, I can tell a marked difference in how smooth the idle is and how smoothly it accelerates.

I think the old O2 sensors were sending some funky readings to the computer and the fuel mapping was pretty clunky... I know that the ECU adapts over time based on the readings it gets from all of the various sensors, but I really didn't expect I'd be able to actually "feel" any difference.

I'm anxious to actually fill it up and do a mileage comparison.

Great News...

Engine performance has greatly improved... The slight stumble at idle is gone. The slight hesitation under acceleration is gone... It pulls better uphill...

I've had a chance to drive it around town and on a highway run...

City MPG 13.5 - up from 10.2

Highway MPG 16.4 - up from 12.2

Overall, I am very pleased and I'll be making my money back pretty quickly at $3.50 + per gallon of high octane...

Should have done this a long time ago...

Looking forward to the chance to tow the boat or trailer with it to see what kind of MPG I get while towing.

I think that's pretty good! I'm getting 18 on the highway with the 33s but I drive like a grandma. Also, with 33s the speedo is off by about 5 at highway speed so we are probably getting the same. I am using premium with seafoam or B 12 Chem tool every third tank...

Towing a 16 foot utility trailer trailer I get a solid 10 mpg no matter my speed. Towing a 5000 pound travel trailer I probably get 7 or 8; I don't even check (top busy shifting).

Charlie_V

My highway milage was taken during a 70 MPH trip in fairly decent wind.

I'm hopeful that as the fuel map continues to get better with additional information, my milage will improve even more.

I need to start driving like a grandma too...

Hate to bump a thread, but this is very interesting - followed TripleThreat's thread on the tick under acceleration (my 99 DII does the exact same thing and with the windows down, especially while towing, I was almost positive it was coming from the passenger side as well!)

So that was a great find, thanks!

Now with this - my engine does the exact same thing although it's not a reman by any means... seems to lose power above low-mid rpm (good torque though, like if TC s locked going up hill it rarely needs to downshift) and idle is off. Most notably since I got it back on the road after sitting for a year and a half, I'm also seeing ~3-4mpg worse than I seemed to remember it getting.

Do you think only changing the upstream sensors would solve this problem?

I got an o2 sensor heater fault last week (hasn't come back yet after clearing) so honestly they might be getting ready to die anyways.
