Default 2000 Disco Oxygen Sensors

Does anyone know of any after market (non-LR) oxygen sensor out there? Perhaps a Nissan equivalent??

Hello there,

Please forgive my "ignorance"... but what does an O2 sensor do? Measures the amount of Oxygen..from where? Why?

Thank´s,
Messias.

I'm not aware of any CO that makes them. It's a Bosch Fuel system but the connectors are gold plated, and unique ( I think ) to LR. You can always try the old stand bys, usually cheaper than a Dealer. Why are you replacing ?

O2 sensors measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust system before and after the catalytic converter to fine tune the engine fueling and to be sure everything is functioning properly. Required by USA law.

Thanks for the response. I am replacing them because my service engine soon light keeps coming on. Of course, I took it to the LR Dealer and after a $50 hook-up fee, they told me that I needed to replace both of my oxygen sensors at a mere $295. I can do it myself and save some money.

First of all, thank you for the reply.

Humm... only the U.S models have it? I just bought a ´99 Td5 (in Portugal). Does mine have those kind of sensors? How can I tell?

Thanks,
Messias.

jsyonker,

You have 4 sensors. Which ones are you replacing ? There are many things that can flag O2 sensor codes, while it is not actually the sensor. What codes did you have ? It's not as easy as, hook up machine and replace bad part.

messias,

LR has never sold a diesel in the States. I've never even seen a Td5. Don't think they have O2 sensors. Lighting90 might know ?

Suggest you check them before repair. This is a good site for showing you how. You just need a meter to read the resistance.

If you need to replace looks like this site is a good place about 80usd each never used it but looks ok, you will need the tool to remove a slotted socket to allow for wires.

These can fail but are not a service part like fuel or air filter they can run for years and 1000s of miles lets know how you get on - good luck

The dealer told me that the sensor in front of the Cat on the driver side had to be replaced. As of this morning my SRS light just came on. Any suggestions on this? I had just put on a brush guard and had to take the whole front end off to do so, and am wondering if I disconnected something?

With the SRS light, I would check that you didn't accidentally damage or unplug one of the sensors. They are located in the front of the vehicle near the bumper. Not sure if it is identical on yours, but on mine, just follow the yellow wire sheaths, and you should be able to find them.
