2000 Disco: Vibration at Highway Speeds
I just got my 2000 Disco about a week ago, and I took it out on the highway for the first time yesterday. I've noticed that when I get it up to highway speed (70mph+), I get some really strong vibration. It seems to get worse depending on the stretch of road I'm on, but I'm curious if this is just normal Disco driving, or if I should get alignment/balance looked at to cut down on this. It can, at times, get the tip of your nose humming . . .
Hi !
I would start by having the wheel balance checked and also check possible play in the steering ball joints.

Just curious, but i'd have someone sit in the car while not moving and you take a look at the front end while the other person turns the wheel back and forth quickly. this way you can possibly notice any play between joints or bushings or whatever. If the vibration is coming from the rear, it may be the driveline, which may need to be balanced or may be at a steep angle if vehicle is lifted.
Well, the car is all stock with only ~38,000 miles on it. I'll check this stuff out, and see where we can go from there. I hope I don't have to spend too much. I'll probably start with the balance, since that's cheap . . .
Well, I did the balance, and it seems to have fixed the problem. I took it up to 90 on the freeway (for a short distance, anyway), and I didn't feel the filling-rattling that I did yesterday. They did notice that the alignment may be a little off, so I'll look at that next.
I have to say, I love this truck.
