Default 2000 Discovery or '97 Range Rover

So I decided I want a Land Rover as a projectcar/truck/backupvehicle/offroader. It seems like the 99-2000 Disco's are my best bet (don't want to spend the money on an '04 and i don't mind getting out to enable the CDL).

Im also starting to consider Range Rovers 95-2002.

But which would be better for off road?

I understand the Disco's aren't too bad to work on (I would be doing all maintence and repairs myself).... How do the Range Rovers compare in being shade tree mechanic friendly?

If you want something for offroad, go for the Disco. Then again you are asking Discovery owners... We are all going to say Discovery. If you want a Rangie, I would get a Classic for offroad... pre 1995..just like a D1 under the skin

Disco is my vote....duh

For an offroad/project truck go for a Discovery, '95 is when LR started taking the Range Rover more towards the "luxury" side of things, IMO....Although I'm sure they do just fine off-road.
