Default 2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II 4x4

We are considering purchasing our first Land Rover. It is a 2000 Discovery Series II. Was this a good year for Discovery models and should we check for anything specific that has historically been a problem with this model?

I have a 99, and can tell you the 2000 is just fine, you can still convert the CDL on the t/case, great off road and didn't have any issues.
If you can buy a truck with the service records you will be better off. The one major thing to look at would be the head gaskets and that goes for all Rover not just the 2000 Disco's. Are they leaking, have they ever been changed?
What do you plan to do with this truck?

I have a 2000 Disco and I think that 2000 was a pretty good year.
P.S. Now that I keep hearing about CDL, is there a thread or a webpage that does into detail on how much of work/money it takes to install a CDL on a vehicle such as the one I own? Thanks.

Your not installing a CDL, you are hooking up some linkage to reactivate it .
You can buy an old D1 t/case shifter and linakge for around $150 or an 04 linkage for $350. Then there is the labor involved, I would imagine most shops would charge you 4 to 6 hours labor, unless you were mechanical enough to do it your self.

It is not too hard to build a linkage for the CDL. There are many sites online that have step, by step instructions. But it was my understanding that the CDL is only a real help off road if you have some sort of lockers (Detroit, or trutrac). Mike would be able to tell u 4 sure.

I think that 2000 is a fairly good year. That's what I drive and the problems I've had would probably would have been left alone by anyone not as **** as me when it comes to vehicle condition.

Keep in mind that whatever year you decide to get, you will most likely have to spend a few thousands in fixes, cause the major reason why people get rid of them is to avoid the bill of certain fixes. So the new buyer has to address them.

Central Differental Lock. In basic lamins terms it "locks" all four wheels together. You need one for serious off roading.
