2000 vs 2001 DII?
Are there any differences between a 2000 and a 2001 as far as capabilities? Does the 2001 not allow you to lock your center dif by hand (the 2000 does)? Would you be able to overcome that with the ARB lockers? Just wondering...

Mid-2001 model year is when they discontinued the CDL. If you're looking at an 01 you'll need to climb underneath to verify whether it has CDL or not. ARBs help a lot but if you can't lock your center diff then all power is still going to go just to the axle with the least traction.
There is little or no difference between the 2 years except for the last couple month production that didn't have the CDL.
If a vehicle does not have a CDL, you can mot get around it by using a locker, they won't work without the CDL engaged as AK has mentioned.

theres a stud with a nut on top of the transfer case just up and behind the front driveshaft. Turn it about 45 degrees, I think it's a 10mm.
Here is a picture of your t/case, see the round plate with the 3 bolts and the nipple in the middle, that is it. Might want to consider installing a new linkage either from a D1 or a 04 D2, makes it a lot easier.
Do not run on the road with the CDL engaged or you will blow your speider gears.
