Default 2001-2003: Another Diff Question

I might be confused. I know very little about this kind of thing, but I'm trying to learn more about this stuff.

ARB Locking Differential

Does this only work on pre-2001 and 2004 models? Or would this replace the non-locking center diff of the models made between 2001 and 2003? It says "Installation involves a bolt-in replacement of the original equipment center differential and a 12-volt air compressor..." Please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Seth

Not a dumb question, I think alot of people new to 4x4's and off-roading get this confused. What many disco's had previously and was brought back in '04 (which is why I opted for mine) is a center locking differential. This locks the front and rear drive shafts to keep power equal to front and rear. However, there is still unequal distribution when you're getting stuck to right and left. What you've been looking at is air-locking front and rear differentials, which are activated and kept locked by an on-board air compressor and can be turned on and off at the flick of a switch-had them in my jeep and they're amazing for rock climbing when you're distributing all power to 1 or 2 wheels at some points. I don't have them on my disco, and unless you're doing some really serious off-roading you don't need them. Looking into getting your CDL rigged up is nice if you do some off-roading though. That's the short version

Do you have a Disco, what year is it? Do you do much wheeling, did you know you will also need to replace your axles to a HD replacement axle.
Parts and labor are about $2500, there are other lockers that work well and cost less, depending on your needs.
