Default 2001 Disco II OBD recommendations

I am looking for a reasonably priced OBD reader for my 01 Discovery II. Primarily to read and delete codes (starting to troubleshoot and resolve the Three Amigos issue). I bought the Autel AP200, but it wont read Discovery models before model year 2005. Any suggestions that have worked for you?

100% Nanocom. That thing felt expensive when I first got it (within a week of getting our Disco) but all these years later I feel like they could charge nearly anything and I'd pay it. Indispensable tool if you think you might have your Disco for the long haul.

I agree, Nanocom. Expensive, but if you plan to keep your Disco, invaluable.

Foxwell is a budget obd and abs scanner. Won't do keys but a cheap china two way obd dondle will do those.

Combine the two and you're nearly halfway to a nanocom

If you are not already monitoring your coolant temps the Ultra Gauge and the Golden Rover mount for the A-pillar is an easy, cost efficient set up to monitor temps and read and clear codes.

iCarsoft LR2 for a budget, or Nanocom.

Yes but if you’re going to keep your Disco long term it’s very worth it IMHO.

So true. I mean... put aside the immeasurable amount it saved me in potential repair/troubleshooting, it let me enable the heated windscreen and I was able to add a bunch of keys, and I would've paid $500 for those features all day long. The heated windshield is more than $500 worth of value in the winter, and I'm pretty sure the dealer charges $700 to code a single key. I got the Disco with one OEM key and since then have added four brand new spares.

I carry an iCarsoft in the Disco all the time and I know it does amigo based diagnostics.

But like everyone says, if you plan on keeping it for an even a reasonable amount of time, I don’t think anything touches the Nanocom. Yes, north of $500 is a lot, but for the capability it offers specific to the D2, it is money well spent. You essentially turn into a dealer with the ability to even program keys, set airbag ride height, and a whole host of other stuff. It seems silly as it’s essentially a Texas Instruments 286 level computer, but it has helped me countless times over a couple Discos to avoid catastrophe or point me in the right direction in diagnosis.

Frankly, it also can add to resale even if you don’t keep your D2 a long time, or I can promise you it will get snatched up IMMEDIATELY if you put it up for sale.
