2001 Discovery II - Free come get it. - Front Seal Oil Leak
Just replaced all of the tensioner and both idler pulleys and serpentine belt after the stock plastic idler grenaded and took out a few blades on the fan.
Put everything back together and did my best to remove the shredded serpentine belt from everwhere and apparently I did a crummy job because I now have a front oil seal that I need to replace.
...yeah I'm not a happy camper. I had the entire front torn down not too long ago when the front cover was purging coolant.
-From memory, I'm going to have to
-Remove transmission cooling lines
-remove crossmember
-remove oil pan
-Remove serpentine belt
-remove fan
Then if I'm remembering correctly I can get the front cover off...pop in the new seal, new gasket for the front cover, and re-assembly...sounds right?
Need:
Oil pan gasket
Front cover gasket
Front Oil Seal
Seriously F-my life.
PS--not really giving this thing away even though I'm seriously pizzed right now.

hey Unstable,
I live slightly north in whitman Ma 40 miles or so.
You do have to strip the front on the engine, but I do not think you have to drop the pan? doesn't the front seal install from the front of the cover, I think so.
So you should not have to drop the cross member or oil pan. Just remove the fan and front acc.'s and crank pully, with a little bit of care to should be able to remove and install the new seal without removing the timing chain cover.
Just use a deep socket that clears the crankshaft snout rather than a seal driver to install the new seal.
I did mine "off" the truck a couple on months ago when I was replacing my chain and i think it goes in from the ouside?

ARGHGHGHGHGHG!!!
I should have checked back!!! hahahaha, I ordered the parts and dropped the pan last night. I was making good progress until I got to the point of dropping the pan and that took forever and I guess I'm at a point where I might as well just do the seal while it's off of the truck. Besides, it'll give me a chance to look for chunks of metal in the pan..
Crap, I should have checked back...oh well, I'm retarded.

water pump and timing chain were replaced when front cover was leaking coolant...rig has 93K on it now, I don't know when I did the front cover job, maybe 10K ago??!? just guessing, it should be fresh.
BTW if anyone in the area wants to come by, drink beer and laugh about what a pain in the *** Land Rovers can be...hit me up! =)
