2001 Discovery Misfire

2001 Discovery Misfire
I am thinking about buying a 2001 discovery with about 160k miles on it. The person is asking 2k for it, but I feel like only offering 1.5k. It has 2 codes, one is a random misfire, the other is a misfire in cylinder No. 5. I plan on taking it to my mechanic for a compression test and checking to see if there is any coolant in the exhaust gas or any oil in the coolant reservoir. The misfire is very subtle, if he didn't point it out, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it. You can feel it on the exhaust if you put your hand behind it. Everything else seems to work fine. The truck is in pretty rough shape, the usual stuff like headliner and various pieces of trip are falling off and it leaks a lot of oil mainly out of the valve cover gaskets. Its not at the point of no return though. He said the head gaskets were done a year ago which makes me kinda scratch my head when I see how disgusting the coolant is in the reservoir. I took it on a test drive with the a/c on. The vehicle stayed cool while it was going but got up to 240 F at idle, I'm surprised the gauge didn't move though... Anyhow I'm just wondering what you all think. Thanks in advance.

Kinda thought the same thing.
My RR rarely gets above 200 F when it hits 210F it turns on its electric fans to cool it right back down to 195F. If its getting that hot, why didn't the gauge move thats what I don't understand. It seemed to only get that hot at idle and remained at about 195 to 200F while at 35mph.

Spike that is a possibility about the gauge being glued into place. However, I think I remember seeing it in the blue at one point but I had my mind on a million other things about the truck. I'm going to take it to a mechanic to have it compression tested and will look to see if the gauge moves from blue to center. I know it hit 240F because I had my scanner hooked up to it. Sorry I didn't mention that before.

Engine cooling and a/c fans are useless while driving above ~30mph, there is enough ram air to keep everything cool unless there is a problem.
The engine and a/c fans only keep the engine cool and the a/c cold while stopped.
Thats why it stayed cool while driving and got hot while idling.
As for the temp gauge...dash gauges are far from accurate.
