2001 Land Rover Discovery 3 Amigos Hill Descent, TC and ABS
I have read many posts about the 3 Amigos. I am interested in purchasing a 2001 Discovery with 138k miles which has all these lights on and I want to learn more about what I should do before purchasing it.
How much do smaller shops usually charge to pull codes on those things?
Can anyone recommend good Aftermarket pads/rotors that I can get from a major parts store like Autozone/CarQuest/Advanced Auto Parts ?
In a worst case scenario situation whats the most it will cost to repair this?

Are you buying the truck from a dealer, if so insist that they check and repair the problem, same thing if buying from a private party, other wise at least have him get the codes read and discount the selling price of the vehicle by the amount of repairs needed or you will/can get stuck with a possibly huge expense.
As for the brakes, go to Atlantic British and if you need brakes and or rotors, buy they mid grade brake combination set.
Don't do a worse case on the repair costs, well what the hell, worse case is in the $3000 range if the control unit is shot.

Have the seller pay the $50 to $100 charge, if he won't, the are other trucks out there so don't play into his possible trap.
By the way, what is he asking for the truck?

For a 2001 Land Rover Discovery SE with 138k miles. Looks nice and clean except the 3 amigos. He said the dealer wants $150 to pull the codes and he said if I buy the car he would subtract the $150 from the price. He is asking $6,500
Is that a good price?

Where are you located? Just to let you know, here in Idaho that would be very reasonable even with the 3 Amigos and the miles. We seem to pay extra (market adjustment) from new for 4 wheel drive vehicles out here demand high supply low so they say. That seems high to pull the codes. The dealer here charged me $80 to pull the codes and diag the problem with the 3 amigos. I have notitfixed since I know on mine it is the overlay harness on the right front, and I know that my ABS are working fine.
I am located in Chicago. Can anyone recommend a good fair-priced mechanic that can work on the 3amigos for me. Thanks again guys.
Remember, the amigos are what you KNOW is wrong. You canpractically count on something else being wrong as well, and that something won't surface until you've owned it for a couple of weeks. I would offer the guy $3500.00 with the lights on, or maybe $5,000 with the lights off IF it's pretty clean otherwise. If he says "no", then leave him your phone number and let him know you'll be looking elsewhere. Myintuition says that he'll be calling you in a few weeks.
Still looking for a decent mechanic that can pull codes for me in Chicago. Any Chicagoans around that can recommend a good mechanic?
Hey, just wanted to let you know I took mine to Knauz Land Rover. I did get mine fixed it was about 3K. I have put around 3000 miles since then and have had no problems. The only good thing about the dealer is they will warranty the repairs for 1 YEAR. Sam was my service consultant as is a great guy. If you do go that route they are well trained and good guys there.
