2002 DII SE - decent buy?

RE: 2002 DII SE - decent buy?
Well, it snowed here this weekend so didn't make it to the dealership. (Jokes about Southerners and winter weather driving here.) It probably would have been an excellent time to test drive, oh well.
Took someone's advice on another thread's recommendation to get the Discovery buyer's guide, hopefully will get it this week.
Maybe in a couple of weeks if the price falls a little more I'll take a look. Just caught Disco fever looking at some of the trucks.

A week later and the truck is still there. "Call for price."
It rained buckets last night, and I like to car shop after rain anyway, to lessen the "sun gleaming and shining" effect.
Went to the dealer and did a test drive. Overall, it was decent for a 2002, but I had some issues.
1. The brakes were really spongy. I had to press the brake pedal very far to get a good grab. Could be hydraulics or pads. For a heavy vehicle it stopped fine, but I'm used to a tighter brake response.
2. There was a lot of wind noise. Not sure if it was the door seals or window seals, but heard noise throughout the car, not just the driver's side.
3. Apparently, someone left the front sunroof slightly open, there was water in the truck. After cleaning it, water came from between the headliner and the top of the windshield. The story I got was the sunroof was closed "flat" rather than fully closed, so the water collected. Do the drain tubes run to the front of the truck then to the sides, or to the sides first?
4. Most alarmingly, even though this is the original dealship that sold the Disco, the service records were purged except for the two most recent entries. Huge black mark, as one can't verify the proper maintenance and recalls were performed.
And the price? $14,995. For that money I should get a tip-top truck, and this wasn't it.

Run away and find yourself something better. Roof leaks are normal for the DII, Water isprobably from a leaky windshileld or roof rack. As for the brakes, I imagine the truck is ready for new rotors and pads. All of this could have been considered and negotiated, but, with the lack of service records why even bother. Only way I would consider it further would be to talk to the prior owner if possible, then negotiate the needed repairs/neglectedmaintenenceinto the final price of the vehicle.
