I understand you are in a different area.. but I paid 3000 bucks for my 2002 d2 with 135k on it. And it was in respectable condition. I've "invested" a little over $1000. And I still need tires. I feel like I got lucky.
Everyone is right.. bring a code reader. Long test drive is a must. Let it idle for a bit before you drive it, might reveal some nasty stuff. Look underneath it carefully. Place I bought mine let me put it on their lift. Was a big help.

Yes and Yes (Under Dash on Left Hand Driver Side). If you can get your hands on a reader with ABS abilities, that would help. These have ABS issues, and some owners remove or cover the warning lights on the dash so they stop showing. An ABS Reader will still show the trouble codes if they exist.
The three amigos lights are on, does not bother me. I will fix it or should ai say attempt to fix it. I may also look at an 03, but the 03's worry me because of the oil pumps. Is it all 03's that are affected? If so is there a new revised oil pump that I could replace the current one with to avoid the pump failing?

You cant shrug off a major fix, especially with a Land Rover. You could buy a way better disco with less mileage for the same price. You have to worry about every little thing on these trucks or it will come back and bite you in the ***, and with 150,000 miles, anything that hasn't been replaced, will need to be.
Just wait until you find a better truck, or you'll regret it.

I live in PA and the average going price is around $4000, 4wd commands a premium here. I am also going to look at an 03 tomorrow that falls within the specified vin range and I was wondering......
1) Where do you hook up a gauge to test the oil pressure
2) what should the numbers be for all four readings
3) if I were to buy it and either replace the pump right away or if the oil light were to come on and I shut it down right away, would I have to replace the gear and the cover or just the gear? There seems to be about a $400-$500 difference between just the gear and the entire assembly.

Any running 03 will no longer have the original oil pump issue. It will have been repaired or replaced years ago.
That being said oil pumps of all years break on these. the symptom is low oil pressure with or without warning light. Ticking or tapping would be another symptom.
Other things cause the ticking or tapping too... Bottom line look for one with no ticking, no tapping, no history of overheating.
