2003 DII with 300 and 302 codes
Original owner of a 2003 Disco II that has a little over 100k on it.
Engine started running ruff so I have been meaning to do a tune up. Last two days the service engine light came on with 300 and 302 codes. I've had some plug wires and plugs replaced by the dealer, but never all of them. Today, the vehicle started juttering really bad under engine load and the service engine light started flashing.
With some research, I am deciding to put on some Magnecore 8mm wires and Bosch Fusion plugs and new distributor.
I know I will need the distributor pack, wires, plugs, and a IM gasket to do the job, but does anyone recommend anything else I should pick up?
What else should I do while I got the engine half apart. The valve covers are leaking at the rear, are they real hard to replace?
Is it possible that the 02 sensors are fouled up due to the engine running bad?
Thanks for the help!

You do not have a distribitor and do not need new coil packs, just plugs and wires.
Yes it is possible that you ruined your O2's, but I would replace the plugs and wires, reset the check engine light and then go from there.
You can repalce the valve cover gaskets while you are in there, or you cna just tighten them, for some reason they wiggle loose over time and start to leak.
8mm 12pt socket in 1/4" drive so that you do not overtighten them.
You cna do the tune up without removing the intake plenum.

Thanks Spike.
Sorry, a little old school in thinking distributor.
I'm just a little skeptical about doing it without removing the IM. I don't see anyway in there. I stared at it for about an hour. How do you get in there?
Is there anything else you would suggest for tuning up the engine to get it back to a smooth as glass idle. It has been running a little ruff for some time before the service engine light and codes showed up.
I noticed there is no fuel filter, so that's out!
Got a week of for the holidays, and there is no motocross races, so not tinker with the bikes. I am jonesing, I have to get my hands dirty!!!!

I have not done a tune up on a DII before so I am not much help on tips with that one, sorry.
I can do a DI in under a hour, but a DII...
But as for getting her running smooth as silk again, just the good tune up, premium gas and a induction cleaning.
Also a bottle of injector cleaner in tha gas tank wont hurt, I add one after every oil change to my truck.

It looks like I will have to remove the IM anyway to tighten the valve covers, Correct?
Also, what is the best way to clean the induction? I am guessing you remove one of the hoses, crank the engine, then spray something like Seafoam into the hose having the solution pulled into the induction and cleaning every thing. Is this correct? Which hose is best to spray into?

Don't replace the coil packs, you have no fault codes so it would just be a waste of money.
Consider the Bosch Platinum Plus 4's instead of the Fusions, I have run both and the Fusions are not worth the extra money.
When you are done with the tune up, PM me and I'll walk you thry the 2 cleanings you will also want to do.

Thanks all, I will PM you Disco Mike when I get the plug wires and plugs changed. I did forget to mention that I have a SE7 with Rear air. Is that what is meant by secondary air? If so, it looks like I will have to remove the IM.
BTW, my last question was don't I have to remove the IM anyway to tighten the Valve Covers? I don't see any other way.
So, all in all, it looks like I have to remove the IM!?

Secondary air injection is a emissions control device, it injects fresh air into the exhaust to help the cats burn it, it take a car from a LEV to a ULEV.
Yes you need to remove the intake plenum to tighten all of the valve cover bolts, 80% of the time tightening the outside ones does the trick thougth.
