Default 2003 disco replacing tires

hello all,

i've looked into BF Goodrich all terrain T/AKO and the reviews were mixed. overall i think a good tire but not great.

my decision has narrow to two tires listed below

1. Nitto Terra Grappler warranty 60 months (4.5 out of 5 tirebuyer)
2. Firestone Destinaton A/T 112/ 109R ( rating 8.7 tirerack) warranty 5yr/ 50,000

anyone has thoughts or experiences with these tires ?

what about increasing to P265/75 R16 instead of P255 70 R16?
currently, i have P255 70 R16 on my disco.
my driving conditions are mixed. i live in california and i do go off raoding.
snow in the mountains, deserts and rains and mud in northern california.

thanks, p

I am running 265/75/16 with my ome 2"... and I am replacing the mud tires with DURA-TRAC. from goodyear. I have heard not so good things about the nitto. the wear life I have been told is not to good. I asked a few weeks ago about tire selection and got nothing but great reviews from fellow disco owners about the dura trac. Back to the tire size. I love the look, and the options for tires is excellent. It does have a slightly negative effect on gas mileage but then again we really do not get gas mileage so I do not worry. DO NOT forget that when you increase the size of your tire that the highway speed you speedo is showing is not accurate... as it has been calibrated for the smaller size. so add about 7% to the speedo speed for a closer actual speed.

Nittos all the way man. Those terra grapplers are awesome tires.

But I would not run a 33" tire on these trucks without a lift. But that's just me.

I have goodyear wrangler RT/S 265/75/16 on stock... more than an inch clearance. I gained two inches off the ground. It has been a great street tire. I have played in the mu and hit a few dirt roads. Not planning on off roading till the lift is on.

Duratracs!

I plan to get the grapplers bc they don't make the duratracs in my size(18).

As for the T/A KO and destination tires, iread good reviews but i have not personally used them.

thank you all for replying !

i did some additional research and found this site, www.offroaders.com which gives you a great comprehensive data on AT/ MT tire reviews. in the end i'm leaning toward
firestone destination m/t.

i currently have 255/ 70/ 16. my 2003 disco came with stock 16" rims. i'm looking into increasing to 265/75/16 however i am concern if i install the 265's without the lift that i will some issues.

245/75/16 gives me roughly the same height i have now.

i had 235-85-16 Firestone Destination MT's on my Jeep, i had zero complains about them, wore amazing, rode amazing(for a mud tire :P) and stayed balanced. would recommend them to anybody. i almost bought a set of the Destination AT's for my Rover, but still cant decide what i want to do with it yet. for the Rover, im getting 265-75-16, i think the 235-85-16 is too skinny for the 16x8 wheel, my Jeep had 16x7.
theres so many good tires, my choices are between:
Goodyear MT-R Kevlar
Goodyear Duratrac
Firestone Destination MT or AT
BFG AT ko or MT km2

and in these pictures, the spare is obviously zero miles, and the 4 drive wheels have 25k, they wore great, so you can compare tread depth

I love my Grapplers. They are silent on the road and grip very well offroad. They are not M/T's though so if thats what you want don't sub in the Grapplers as they will underperform to your needs. I had the Mastercraft Courser AT2 on my Wrangler which I also liked a lot as an all around tire.
