My disco is running pretty warm like in the range of 195-200 depending on weather conditions, I am pretty sure I have a 180 thermostat but not sure. Any tips on how to get it to run cooler?

 

That's considered a great range of temperatures. Some people strive or lower, most are happy with that.

 

^^agreed. On the highway you should expect to see 188 or so. The best I ever saw was 185!

If you REALLY want to bring your temps down, I'd suggest swapping to an inline thermostat - the style of cooling system that comes stock in rovers is incredibly anachronistic. Swap to an inline and you can ensure coolant flow goes through the radiator and keeps the entire engine cool. I also have an electric fan installed in the grill in mine, and I run temps from about 175 on highway, to 185, maybe 190ish on idle

190 to 200 is pretty decent, as long as it doesn't get above 205ish, but it is still pretty objectively terrible, especially for the Rover aluminum block so susceptible to overheats.

Try installing an electric fan first, if you're still not happy and have the extra time + money, throw an inline in that baby and enjoy much cooler Rover temps 8)

 

ditto on the inline thermostat. IMHO one of the best mods you can do to these trucks.

I live in Scottsdale AZ where is is hotter than Satan's outhouse. Can still run 190-195F in the summer with the AC on.

If you're in a really cold climate it has a few drawbacks, but I still think its going to be your best option no matter what.

I've done it to my past 4 rovers. All good results.

 

also - if you don't have a factory one (would have been with your 04 engine swap), put an oil cooler on it.

amazon has great ones with sandwich adapters.

 

You are good at 200. That is normal for a 180. Be glad and don't sweat it

 

180 is when the stat fully opens, it doesn't mean that is going to be your tempertutre

 

I'm intrigued by the electric fan idea. Could someone detail the parts needed for that set-up. If I stay with a fan clutch, is the 02 fan better than the 04 fan? I have an 04. I will probably add a sandwich oil cooler before next summer as well. The plan s 180 deg t stat, new water pump, rebuild oil pump and replace fan clutch, add oil cooler. I may even add hood vents to get rid of the heat.
