It could be intermitentas the alloyrockers will expand as the engine heats up loosening the little caps, this is an easy check.

yeah. I thought it was weird that it only seems to do it in the middle of the road temps. Ok cold, then starts, but coming off the highway, it is quiet.

Not to steal the threead, but has anyone ever used any aftermarket roller rockers?

Deepblue,

I have a 2003 Discovery and it has the same ticking sound. It is my wife’s truck, I noticed an oil leak and found that the valve cover bolts were loose. The noise seams to have started about the same time as the oil leak. Did you ever find out what was causing the noise on your rover? I am going to do an ATF flush and change to synthetic oil. Please let me know if you solved the problem.

How many miles on your truck, does your oil light flicker when starting or at stop lights?

Disco Mike,

Thanks for getting back to me, disco just turned 80,000 miles and has been good to me so far. It is not showing any light or fault codes, no indication of a oil light. I tried the screwdriver to the ear test to see if I could find the source of the noise. It definitely is coming from the valve cover area not the exhaust manifold. I have been reading a lot about 2003 disco's and oil pump failures. I am concerned that this is a indication that my pump is on its way out! Do youknowif Deepblue ever figure out his noise, the video he posted sound just like my truck.

Any adviceis greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Egreen
