Default 2003 discovery

Hi folks I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up a 03 very clean with only 115,000 km I pulled carproof and it showed only 2 owners and it was serviced at same shop for 9 years as owner had aftermarket warranty so it was very well maintained

my my question is I thought the 03 was the 4.0 v8 engine but car proof shows it's a 4.4 litre motor
did these come with 4.4 in 03 ? I'm still scared of this oil pump failure issue

Is there a 4.0 in the 2003 model year? I thought they were upgraded to 4.6. Also was there a 4.4 discovery 2003?

Did all 2003 engines 4.0 and 4.4 have the oil pump issues

03/04 D2 = strictly 4.6L, and the oil pump issues happened on engines with hardly any miles on them and they were all fixed under warranty.

You don’t have to worry about the oil pump issue at this point, it would not have made it this long.

Inspect the driveshafts for wear and grease fittings at the u joints. You want them serviceable. Also, get documentation on the thermostat and cooling system. If you don’t get it, swap in a Genuine LR Thermostat first thing. These are relatively cheap fixes and the cost of bad driveshafts or thermostats is heavy. You can do these yourself.

A shop may have serviced the truck consistently, but unless they were specialists I wouldn’t give consistency too much credence. Were they just fixing issues or were they proactive. That said, get underneath and get a close look for leaks, and plug it in to an OBDII reader and make sure they are not hiding any codes.

I looked through the service reports cooling system was checked and thermostat replaced etc
that makes me feel better about the oil pump from the above comment

i just have to make a decision as right now there is this 03 disco and a Lr3 with 170,000 kilometres

Buy the one that you like to drive the best. The only thing I am jealous of on the LR3 is the adjustable ride height.

It’s all great and dandy until that pump dies or you blow a bag. I love my LR3, but I owned a P38 RR that dropped to the bumpstops 4hr’s from home.... sand had gotten into one of the height sensors and faulted it. LET ME TELL YOU IT SUCKED!!!!!! No other words to describe it! It’ll happen with the LR3 eventually, as either a pump or bag will let go when you least expect it. The price to fix it with the better pump, a software update, and 4 new air springs = a D2.

I might be old fashioned, but I prefer coils vs rubber bladders thst wear out like tires...

I hear you that would suck I wonder if the air to coil conversion kits work well and how the ride quality is ??
i see Atlantic British sells the kit for about $1100 with the software kit
