Default 2003 discovery engine knock

so i just got a 2003 discover HSE with 55k about 3 weeks ago. On the first trip on the highway for a extended time, i noticed a loud knocking sound coming from the engine bay. Upon returning i took it to the dealer and it has been there since (thank god for the extended warrenty they offered and i took). They are going over the engine and it may need to be replaced, does this sound normal to you? he also mentioned a rod bearing could have an issue.

Either way the first three weeks where nice to have it and im hoping for many more years of fun. I know all of you would like some pics but i dont have any due to the extended stay in the shop...... just picture java black with alphaca interior and fully loaded....

looking forward to talking with all of you and learning more about these awesome trucks

One guess would be that your engine is one of those 2003's with the misaligned dowels and the oil pump will end up failing over and over again until you replace the engine. Welcome to the world of Land Rovers.

If it is the original engine, and the vin range is within the TSB for the oil pump failure. INSIST that the engine is replaced! Otherwise you will be replacing it later out of your own pocket.

Yeah, get what you can with that extended warranty. I've never known anybody that came out ahead with one of those.

Check to see if the engine was replaced. Call the dealer it was serviced at, provided you have that information. If the engine was replaced your fine, and you will probably only have 10 to 20k miles on that engine. The oil pumps will fail anywhere from 20k miles to 80k miles.

BTW, nice porsche.
