Default 2003 discovery issues..........

I bought a 03 discovery with 94,000 on it about two weeks ago. When i bought it had a slight whinning noise comming from the transfer case i had a rover tech from the local dealership ride with me and he told me it was normal for them with that type of miles on them. Well tonight i was on a 50 mile drive and about half way through the trip my amber warning light came on saying it had slipped into neutral so i pulled over and put it back into high and it kept slipping back into neutral and at last it started grinding and making all kinds of noises and finally stopped altogether and i had to put it into low to pull off the road. So my question is, is my transfer case toast? or what other sugestions would someone have?

Yeah, mine has 121k on it and the only "whine" I get is from the wife every time I need to put gas in it. The ACE pump makes a little noise, but it's more of a wurrrr, not a whine. ;-)

That Rover "tech" is a idiot, sounds like the t-case was low on fluid from a leak and once the rest of it leaked out you fried the transfer case.
Get a used t-case for a '04, get the shifter from a '04 too, it is a better t-case than the '03.

Naw the case was full to the proper level i inspected it myself because before the problems happened i wanted to know what the whine was comming from. it is at the dealer right now and they are checking it out. Sometimes i think i know more than the dealer techs do at my local Rover dealer ive had plenty rovers over the years 96 discovery 97 p38 and a 01 p38 and now this 03 discovery. Good thing a bought a 5 year 100,000 waranty for 2000 guess i got my moneys worth already................ Im in Richmond Va.

Well I found one today with 126,000 miles on it for a steal. It is running perfect just needs a front bumper cover (who cares) It is an HSE with 126k and it is in the VIN range (in the middle) 790074... If it has made it 126k is safe to assume the oil pump issue is not on this one. Or is it a waste ot time. I can get it for under 3k. I have a freind at the dealer that took it in.
