Default 2003 Discovery Purchase Advice

I am looking at buying a 2003 discovery SE7 with 60,000 miles on it. What should I be looking out for? I have driven it, it drives well, no strange noises or anything like that. One thing that bothers me, is they have removed the factory stereo and CD changer and put in some nasty single CD. If I purchase this car I would want to go back to the OEM. And the back door seems to stick, I think someone back up into something with the spare tire, no dents or creases though.

Thanks in advance

Make sure it is not in the VIN range for the oil pump failure... You can find out if the engine has already been replaced by taking the VIN to the dealer and having them run it... They can tell you who the servicing dealer was when it was under the Land Rover complementary service schedule and you can contact them for all the service records... If the engine was replaced, it will be known, plus you'll know the history of the vehicle...

You can always find the original radio...

What is the asking price if I may???

How does the back door stick? Squeeze the handle and hard to open? Or swings open hard?
I would not buy a 2003, there is a VIN# range that has bad oil pumps and the only fix is a brand new engine.
Either get a 2002 or a 2004, I would avoid the '03 like the plauge.

Here is the VIN range... You don't have to avoid them altogether, just do your homework...

Keep in mind that there is a big difference between the 02 and 04. One being the headlights. but the biggest is the 4.0L in the 2002 and the 4.6L in the 2004. I would go 2004. I have a 2003 though. Great disco. no problems.. yet. haha

You'll need to rebuild the front drive shaft with serviceable u-joints. I just had mine done a few weeks ago...I bought the parts myself from Carquest ($80)and labor at the d/s shop was less than $100.

Holyfreakincow...did I just get to answer a question because I knew something?!?!?

You sure did Annie. You MUST use premium gas. Do you have any plans to off road? Do a search here for "new owner", or "looking to buy". Also search for 3 amigos, head gaskets, and DiscoMike's 60K service list.

Because of the terrible rap the 03's are taking, even if it is not on the list for possible engine failures, if you can't steel it, don't buy it.
How much are they asking for it?

I have 2 03 Disco, both outside the VIN range. Great cars, no problems, just regular maintenance. I would nothesitate to buy an 03
