2003 Discovery SE
Hey guys, I am thinking about buying a 2003 SE and wanted to hear some feedback from long term owners. I have never owned a Land Rover but always admired them. What are the most common issues with this specific year/model? What to look for when buying? The one I have my eyes on has 155000 miles on it. Thanks in advance!

There is so much info here just take time to research
I had a 04 for 4 years and now have a 03 disco
the 03 discos had the oil pump failure but that should be solved in the one your looking at
first thing I do is get a ultra gauge get 180 stat the thicker ignition wires 8 mm I think and replace drive shaft if it's oem
make sure you take it for a good drive let it warm up like 30 min drive and listen for engine ticking sometime the sleeves I believe slip and when hot they start moving
other than that I've never had one break down or cost me a ton of money
other than that check out disco mikes maintenance list

Check the rear frame (chassis) behind the rear axle for rot, test it well or the chassis might be scrap, if that's the case everything else is irrelevant.
Check the history for servicing, engine, autobox, T case and diffs. Any big play in the driveshafts is bad news for diffs or T case. Now engine, how long is a piece of string, there are many V8 issues and most well documented on here. If buying a D2 take along someone who knows them very well and ensure you take a code reader.
