Default 2003 Fan and Clutch

Will a pre-2003 fan that is a 2-piece with the bolt holes and removable clutch compatible with 03-04? Nobody around here has the 1-piece in-stock so if I can get the earlier fan from the salvage yard and a new clutch from the auto parts store I could be in business by the end of the day. I just don't know if the earlier clutch matches the water pump threads or the shrouding on my vehicle. Thanks for your tips. the sooner, the better.

yes, you can install a 99-02 fan and clutch to your truck, probably a smart way to go for the future.

I second that. I have fans (extra parts) and they both fit the same. I like the older one better.

Just be sure to CAREFULLY inspect the salvage fan. There have been reports here of fans coming apart and causing significant damage.

Yes...I Did the 99-02 two piece fan swap to my 2003. Once you swap, you can also run a better/HD fan clutch. I think I paid $30 for the fan and $70 for the brand new Hayden HD fan clutch. Much better setup.

Hope that helps.

What was the P/N on the Hayden Fan Clutch? I have found replacement blades from 11.00 to 80.00, and I bought a 9.00 one for my 98 D1. I compared it to the LR unit and the only difference was the LR logo missing.

My D2 runs 200-206F during the TX Summer but I would like to replace the fan clutch/fan blade before next summer.

I second that (and am also in Texas... HOT). Love to swap out the clutch.

Hayden 2991 HD Fan Clutch. I actually paid $57 for the clutch from Amazon. I never see greater than 201° and that's climbing mountain passes at 8000' with a fully loaded truck towing the dirt bikes in 90 degree weather.

Me too. I'll be installing mine in just a few moments. Right after the Amour All dries on my freshly scrubbed fan.

I ended up getting a 2002 fan over-nighted from a nearby salvage yard & a Hayden 2991 clutch. Bolts from a nearby hardware store, a touch of thread locker on the ends. Also did a good radiator flush with the hose and finally distilled water. Took out the factory Tstat & replaced with a grey 180 and new lower hose. Filled with green coolant and distilled water. Seems to be running well and haven't heard the engine tick since. Thanks for all the info guys. I feel much more comfortable with my setup now
