It's less expensive than getting rid of the wife and likely not interested in doing so anyway.

Shane, from what I can tell, the liners are hammering into the firing ring in the head gasket. Starter needs to be replaced along with all the gaskets. Coils, wires, plugs, and possibly the cats and o2 sensors. You want it?

Sure, I'll drive it for another 10 years.

Your liners are most likely not bad.

Also, you need to realize rovers have their quirks. If you or your wife don't like quirks then I wouldn't be getting a Rover.

Shane, come and get it. Bring a roll back. If the liners are not a problem on 03-04 disco's.... why is every reman'd block fitted with top hat liners????

Its a sense of security. A business makes a decision to just top hat their motor for reliability sake.

It doesn't mean however, that every one will fail. It just needs a fail percentage. That fail percentage could mean as little as single digits. To some businesses a fail rate of 1 is bad enough.

If you have 100,000 rovers and the fail rate is 10% (high) or 10,000, you still have 90,000 that haven't failed, it isn't the 90,000 that people comment or file lawsuits about, its that 10%. The rate could be even 1%, could you imagine a company having to return product or money for only 1%.
Why do top hatted engines fail?

Why do I know a couple people that have had their engines misdiagnosed, 1 being from the dealer?

If I would happen to come and get it, I'd bring a head kit and put it in and drive it home.

How many miles on it?

I'd be interested in coming to get it if Shane doesn't want it.

Just replaced gaskets on my 04. PITA, but manageable.
