Default 2003 trans cooler sames as a 1999-2002?

ok throwing this out to see if any one can give me an answer, I have a 2003 disco with vin A807352 is there a difference between the earlier 1999-2002 trans oil cooler to the 2003's?

Mine has taken a wee bit of damage and need to replace it.

Thanks for the help

I have a 2000/4.0 and am swapping the engine and transmission from an 03 into it. The transmission cooler is bigger for the 03, but is has the hp24 transmission and my 2000 has the hp22. I noticed when I swapped my radiator. The 03 cooler fits the brackets on the 00 radiator.

I'd get the larger cooler regardless of your transmission if you have to get a new one anyway. T:he newer one is maybe a third bigger.

FWIW, the oil cooler is the same size on both. The air con cooler is also the same on both.

03/04 D2 does not have an engine oil cooler.

The 03/04 does have a trans oil cooler which is much larger than the trans and oil cooler on earlier D2s.

I have added 03/04 trans oil coolers as engine oil coolers to my 04 Discoverys using earlier D2 oil cooler lines.

Abran are you serious? My mistake... my 03 stuff is all separated out. Why the HELL would land rover eliminate an oil cooler?! You know my status in the swap... I'll keep the oil cooler (and already swapped the transmission cooler).

That's just nuts. But that explains the mystery plug in the 4.6 block behind the oil filter... I just realized that's an oil cooler line... or should be. I'm still waiting for my engine from the machinist.

Sorry for the hijack.

And I just checked... the 03 radiator plastic brackets have the slots for an oil cooler just like the 00. Amazing. Rover just plugged the ports on the block and didn't put an oil cooler on. Shocking.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I've read it was to keep temps up to pass smog as the testing was getting more strict year after year.

But cost savings sounds just as feasible, if not more so.

Here in CA, the book for testing shows that an 03/04 model should have a Smog or air pump. I had an 03' that was from Texas without SAI and I made the mistake of chatting up my Smog guy about there being no SAI. He went into instant corpo mode and starting consulting the book. He finally suggested to me that there was in fact a smog/air pump and I didnt know where it was(wink wink).
