Default 2004 Been Sitting for the past year - need advice

So I'm in SC but my father lives in Jacksonville where this D2 is.
Guy states he's been overseas so its been sitting in the garage for the past year.
He did drive it across town when he moved between homes and said it runs "a little rough".
He has NOT drained or replaced the fuel - says it has about 4 gallons or so in it.
Otherwise, supposedly has no other issues.

My issue is what might I need to look for in a D2 thats been sitting for the past year?
Would you expect certain seals to dry up and leak?
I suggested to my Dad to test drive it and let it idle in the driveway afterwards and keep looking for leaks, overheating etc etc.
I'm familiar with some typical things, sun roofs leaking, heads, front drive shaft, all electronics etc etc....

I think given the overall condition as represented by the ad, it could be a sweet deal - hopefully it'll turn out that way.

Thanks for any advice -

In a year I would not expect much to have gone wrong as far as seals go. I would do the standard base line of, tune up, new fluids and filters. Check it over well. If he is not familiar with Rovers pay for the PPI at a reputable shop.

I would ensure that all the fault lights come up when you put the key in, to make sure no one has disabled the SES light or 3 amigos. At least then you'll know if there is a problem underlying. Overall I think it looks like a pretty sweet ride. It sounds like you've done your research and know what you may be getting into, I say jump in.

I expect most D2s to leak regardless of how long they've been sitting

So it did have a good oil leak, not sure where from.
Didnt look as good in person - "that's what he said"
Ran really rough and actually smoked.

Ultimately, I sided with my Dad. He didnt feel very good about it and I'm not looking for an immediate project of that magnitude so passing on this one.

Thanks for all of the responses.........

Not unusual for a vehicle to emit a little steam after sitting for a great length of time, condensation builds up in exhaust system over time. But, if it had a sweet smell and never went away...then you're probably looking at a cooling system issue. Probably the right choice passing on this one. These vehicles are pushing fifteen years old, so finding a nice clean one with no mechanical issues is becoming more difficult by the day.

Good luck in your endeavor to find one.

I'd love to have the interior out of it though.

the closest scrap yard for me that MIGHT have d2s is Bout 2.5-3 hours away. I will soon be moving to Florida as soon as I sell our place here, so maybe I'll be closer .
