Default 2004 CDL Switches Wiring to pin 7 - C0681

Hi There,

Somehow, I managed to fit a 2004 Front Housing to my 2003 Transfer case, lol.

It seems to be working OK but I could use some advice on a couple of things.

1. The lever arm on the CDL has three positions. From what I see on the web, it should only use the two most clockwise, the latter being the locked position. Is the first position for assembly purposes or am I missing something?

2. The 2004 has two sensor switches, the RAVE states are wired in parallel. I realize that I have to wire in to the pin 7 on C0681 connector and I have verified that the light comes on on the Instrument Panel. That said, the RAVE does not explicitly show the 2004 set up and I am not getting the 3 audible dings when the light comes on which leads me to believe the second switch might wire into something else.

As a contrast the neutral switch lights and audibles just fine. Could it be 03 programming?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, guess this is a rare situation.

Any 2004 owners out there know how the two CDL detect switches and wires are connected to the harness?

Grammin,

Jeff Blake in this forum is also working on figuring it out:

Grammin,

Regard your first post, i.e., "the light comes on on the Instrument Panel"....

Is this light for the CDL-engaged status... or the CDL-disengaged status?

Hey,

Yes the light comes on to indicate CDL engaged. Goes out when disengaged. I tested this mechanically as well as electrically. Mechanically the light took a little bit of driving to go off indicating that it was working properly, to me anyway.

I previously posted on Jeff Blake's thread...

I would also love to find out where the white connectors for the two 2004-specific CDL sensor switches get connected. My 2003 Disco came with a 2004 transfer case which was installed by an independent repair shop. However, the shop did not install diff lock sensors & harness. Therefore, my dash lamp for CDL-engaged does not work at this time.

I have not had the time to tear into my center console to look at the current wiring set up yet.

I do not know if this would help... I have been collecting images anywhere I can find of 2004 transfer cases. These pics show two similar looking connectors for the two 2004-specific CDL sensor switches. One clue for me is some of the pics show thee two harness for these two connectors are of similar lengths...

Word on the street is some 2003 Discos have a connection from the harness strapped to the transfer case. Mine does not.

I followed up on a good install guide PDF located here...

URL="http://landroverclubvi.weebly.com/files.html"

This explain how to get the light going, which I have, but its not clear on how the 2 connectors are wired on the 2004.

I followed the wiring logic in the 2003 RAVE Electrical Diagrams.

I have a question into Jeff's thread as above.

You hit on it here, I never saw your pics, but now I see. In the detached harness picture, you can see where the switches connect, on my vehicle this harness only has the three other plugs.

Looking at the lower white connector on the left, this is C0681 on the female (ECU) side. Pin 7 is for the light which is a Black Blue connector and the one that works for me. I'm not sure from this image if the two connectors are joined together in parallel inside the harness. My guess is that they do. The two wires are then Pin 7 and Ground whatever one that is.

I got my new connectors yesterday, both work individually. I am going to simply cut the connectors and wire them in Parallel as above.

Thanks for the help.

I marked up the picture (sorry moused it) if it helps.

You may be on the right track....

I have the wiring harness in my possession. Paul Grant sent it to me a couple of years ago. We believe this harness is actually from 2004 Model Year. There is a label on the harness showing a 13-Sept-2003 production date.

Based on your previous post, I proceed to take apart the sticky tapes holding the entire harness together to see if I can track where the individual wires connect to each other...

Each of the white female diff lock connectors has a pair of black and blue wires
