The two blue wires (per post #10.... one blue wire from Diff Lock Switch Connector 1 and one blue wire from Diff Lock Switch Connector 2) are spliced together before connection to white female plug shown in post #11

The two black wires (per post #10.... one black wire from Diff Lock Switch Connector 1 and one black wire from Diff Lock Switch Connector 2) are also spliced together

If I recollect correctly, the pre-2003 models (which has CDL spec'd out) used a single diff lock sensor with two wire prongs possibly for the (single set of) of blue & black wires. This sensor has a habit of getting stuck and not working properly.

The 2004 models came with two diff lock sensor switches, probably for reliability and redundancy, i.e., to make sure the soccer moms are aware their CDL is locked, especially to warn them if they are taking their CDL-locked Disco from a muddy soccer field back to the highway at high speeds

This may explain why the sensors (with their respective two sets of blue and black wires) are connected in parallel.

Grammin, please kindly take lots of pic or videos when you are hooking your wiring up and let is know if it will work. I hope to do mine later in the winter.

Thanks!

ACG, awesome and rare information, thanks for opening the Harness, as we suspected, the two switches act in parallel and act redundant to one another. I will take pictures as requested.

As I have been installing the CDL, I have been taking some video for my YouTube Channel, but it's more of a discussion on the process than a how to. Too difficult to work on my own, under the car, covered in stinky gear oil (anyone else hate that gear oil smell?) and still make a good video on this. I can provide some insight though, I swapped out the housing without taking any cross members or exhaust parts out. It wasn't too bad, difficult to torque some of the bolts though.

I plan on putting the console back together today, temporarily as I have ordered a D1 linkage and lever set (budget) and expect it to take 10-14 days. The Land Rover probably needs a run out.

Cheers!

Default CDL 2004 wiring in to 2003 with no harness.

Installed two new CDL detect switches, cut connectors off leaving some wire if I need to reconnect them for some reason, wired in parallel, brought wires up through the tunnel plate. Wired in to pin 7 C0681 and a ground to bolt under handbrake.

Tested CDL into locked and light comes on.

Having a little difficulty with the new plunger switches as they are a little sensitive, added an extra washer to the front plug and this has helped. Need to run the truck for a bit for everything to settle in before I have another look.

I am waiting on a D1 lever and linkage that I order last week on eBay. Not convinced it's coming yet though.

Cheers

Grammin,

This is excellent news indeed! Where did you get the 2004-style CDL detect switches?

Default CDL Switches Source

https://www.lrdirect.com/IGM500011-S...keep_https=yes

LR Direct from the UK

Hopefully the link works.

If not search for part # IGM500011.

There are three levels of quality, I chose the LRD Shop approved and ordered 3.

One seems to be very sensitive. You just touch the pin and it connects. I'm hoping it settles down as I drive.

The third one I hacked to use as the high low detect. Not the same switch but I was able to modify it to work. The one that came with the transfer case still works but the distance on the plunger was too worn now. I have taken these apart. There's a plastic or rubber support that seems to get compressed over time and eventually cannot make the contact.

That another story though!

Cheers

Sorry to drag up an old thread. My issue with an 04 Transfer Case in my 03 (with an 02 harness with just two wires instead of 4 for the dif lock sensors) is Traction Control not working in Dif lock. Will wiring my older harness this way give me Trac Control with dif lock engaged?
