Default 2004 Disco 2 — mechanical noise, big clunk, hard reverse jerk + M&S lights

Hey all — hoping to pick some brains here. Got a few things going on with my D2 and trying to figure out if they're all connected or just the joys of owning one of these things.

The mechanical noise — under low-speed acceleration I'm getting this mechanical clicking/rattling from the left front. Not sure how to explain it. Managed to get a recording attached — there's some wind noise, but you can definitely hear it.

The big clunk — the other day I put it in Drive and got one massive clunk from the front end when i started accelerating.

Hard jerk in reverse + M&S lights — sometimes when I shift from Park into Reverse it jerks pretty hard, and every now and then the M&S lights pop on afterward. My gut says XYZ switch for the lights, but figured I'd mention it in case it's part of the bigger picture.

Could it be the driveshaft? or something else?

Truck is parked for now. Any help on where to start would be awesome — thanks!

^^ Plus have you checked your motor mounts? They're made of rubber and prone to failing with age and milage.

On a note for the easiest thing to check is to start by removing the front drive shaft and see how the U-joints feel in your hands. If they are not obviously bad then put the truck and diff lock mode and driving around and see if the clunk is still there or the other noises

That chirpy noise sounds exactly like a bad front factory driveshaft to me.

Is yours the original?

Another vote for front drive shaft, it’s hard to diagnose without removing it but pretty likely. Mine caused chirps and weird vibrations.

One issue that isn’t talked about much is that the AC condenser drips water right into the U joints.

I have been having some weird vibrations lately and wasn't sure what it could be. I will remove the front drive shaft and see how the u-joints feel. I will check today, but i bet the drive shaft is original. Do any of you have any recommendations on a replacement drive shaft?

I've seen these: https://4xshaft.com/products/land-ro...2~yr_1998-2004

Yes, that's the one I'd get. The KEY difference with Tom Woods is that they have a greaseable center ball, and other options don't have that and require disassembly for proper greasing which is a huge pain (and frankly, totally insane). I had to figure that out first hand.

GBR may have that feature too, but I wasn't able to find out because they don't publish much info online.
