Default 2004 Disco II Blown Engine 70K miles

Guys this is my first time joining a forum group, and I have a 2004 Disco II with 70K miles. My wife drove drove the vehicle up to about a year ago, never offroad, did scheduled maintances and changed oil every 3K miles or so. I have nothing but problems since I took over the vehicle and recently my engine went out. I need HELP. Is this normal?

no, it is not normal. 04s are the best DIIs made, very few problems. when you say 'went out' do you mean the engine slung a rod, stopped running or what? were any lights on the dash at the time?

Goes to show that a disco is a disco is a disco. 2004 seemed better cause they were more recent, but as they age, they'll have the same problems as all other discos.

Remember that 2004s were made under Ford's ownership. That should explain a lot right there.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you guys.

The mechanic said it it blew a rod through the engine? I got in and drove for about a mile and noticed the ck oil light came was on and there was a clanking sound. As I pulled over the clanking slowed and did not notice any smoke or anything unusual other then the clanking. Got back in to drive it to the mechanic and noticed that the clanking got louder and faster (40-50 MPH) About a mile or so later I noticed that the ck oil light was off but engine light was on and then about 1 to 2 minutes laters it just turned off. I don't know why? This was going to be my baby for a long time.

It doesn't sound normal, even for a Land Rover! I have to ask, areand your wife the only owners? How many miles on it when you bought it? A lot could have happened if it was owned previously. Also did anything lead up to this? Any problems or strange noises or unusal conditions? The internal parts of any engine are very hard to just break on their own, usually something causes a problem and then it's like a domino effect. On a previous vehicle I had a valve lifer get stuck and that eventually caused the cam shaft to break into 3 pieces! That's one major part!

We are the original owners and bought in new in San Antonio in Dec. of 03. We have done all scheduled maitenances and changed oil every 3K miles. We really took care of it because I knew that when the time came for a new car, she would want it and I would eventually use the Disco. We have had to replace all the hoses for the radiator because it was over heating, new spark plugs and wires, a sensor because the sport and I think the traction light would blink and would the vehicle would stay in low gear.

If you change your oil every 3k or so, why was your check oil light on? When and who changed your oil prior to this happening? How long was it from last oil change to this happening?
