Horn blows? Headlights on? Sounds like maybe it thinks the shifter is not in park. Try moving it to the neutral position until you get an N on the dash

I was hoping the gear shifter was the solution.... tried a few times and still acting the same.

I had this issue, turned out to be a very loose connection on the battery positive terminal.
The negative wasn’t much better. This is after have my 2004 V8 for 3 years.

You can jumper the starter relay, if the starter turns you have something wrong upstream. Could be the XYZ switch.

Update- I was able to get the truck started. I had my buddy try and start while I hit the starter. It started with a few hits. One problem solved. Could a bad starter cause issues with misfire codes when starting?

Shop replaced the starter, There is coolant leaking in some of the pistons. How do you tell if it is a head gasket leak or block/ slipped liner issue?

Depends on which cylinders mostly. If the rear most cylinders it could be the head gasket. If it’s the middle cylinders then it’s most likely the block is cracked.

they said #3. I need to look at options if it’s the block. identified with borascope
The repair is under warranty and I have a few options. Engine has 102000 miles on it.
1- replace with used engine no cost to me with 30 day warranty.
2- replace with remanufactured long block from AB and I pay the difference between the used and AB long block. Has 12month unlimited mileage warranty from AB.

if the cost difference is not huge I’m leaning toward long block option from AB.

thoughts?
