It could be partially bad, CPS, and intermittently sending enough signal to ECM that it fires up for a minute or two. I'd immediately check for spark after it quits.

Yep my no name CPS did exactly that. Would start, run, but miss at idle, then either clear up, or stall out. Eventually it turned into a no start condition 2.5hr from home. I let it cool, it finally started and I got home. Swapped it out and no more issues.

Finally got the CPS changed out.

Went to start it, turned over a few times and almost started. It cranked up to 1200 RPMs for a couple seconds and puttered out. Not sure where to go from here.

Wow, two threads on the same issue on the same day, what's the probability of that. Sounds like you got a bad cps out of the box, it happens. I recommend you buy a second Disco and swap parts between them to troubleshoot. Even better with three or four or five or six....

Well I definitely don't have the money for that and I'm pretty sure even if I did there's not one available in my area - smal town about 8 hours from any city.

I did start a new thread considering the circumstances had changed with the vehicle.

Well after all that fun stuff, come to find out it was the fuel pump. Installed the new $500 lifetime-guarantee pump and she fired right up.

Glad to have the CPS changed, so no more error codes for that.

As I couldn't fit the seal on the fuel pump when I replaced it, I said 'screw it' and installed the pump without it. Can't smell gas but do get the error code 'Emissions Evaporative Large Leak'. It's alright, I can live with it!

Hold up there. First off the airtex pump is about 68 bucks. Second, you need to get that seal on or you are driving a bomb. Grease up the seal and slide it over the housing then install. If you put the seal on the tank then try to assemble it won't work.

Yes put the seal on, on really hot day your disco can fill with a lot of gas fumes without it

Yeah I'm trying to do that now. The problem I'm having is trying to push the top of the fuel pump (with the seal on) down far enough for the metal lock ring to catch the threads at the top of the tank. It is an absolute pain!

Anybody have any tricks or advice for getting this thing on?
