2004 Disco worth buying?
Hello respected Disco fans!
Been searching very hard for a decent 04 Disco but no where can I find ones for 8-9k like many of you are saying. Dealers really don't care if these Discos has many problems or if they are even aware of it. I just can't seem to mark down a price from 12k to 8k, literally not possible.
But here is one pretty decent with very clean interior. Let me know what you think before I pull the trigger.

For a 2004, 10-12K is not a bad range. That's about what NADA and KBB say they're worth. Prices vary widely from area to area so what somebody pays in one place you may not come close to where you are. Even here in Colorado where Discoveries are everywhere it's hard to find a 2004 for under $10K.
The 2004 Disco has the best of everything that a Disco has to offer and is definitely worth buying. What are you going to use the vehicle for?

For commuting you can get an older Disco (01-02) for a lot less than you'll pay for a 2004. The advantage of the 2004 is it has the center differential lock which is handy on icy roads as well as off road.
I understand liking the looks of the 2004 Discovery but for commuting you can find a vehicle that will get better mileage and cost a lot less to maintain. Rovers are not drive and forget vehicles. They require maintenance and if it doesn't get maintained the repairs get expensive very fast. Not to mention the added expense of the premium fuel the Discovery requires.

Toransis, your from my area
I saw that disco when I was hunting for mine. I paid 4800 for my 2000 Disco but it has higher miles about 113000 now. I will have spent about $1200 fixing and tuning everything up but I still got a 2000 Land rover for about $6000, less than blue book. P.S. the 7 Passenger seating is really handy. I average 11.8 MPG mostly in town. 14 if on highway/town combo, and the best I ever got was on the way home from downers grove about a 2 hour drive and I got 17.4 or something. Its an awesome car to drive but like other people said it is EXPENSIVE. I would make sure you have some reserve money to fix repairs that may not be showing when you test drive the vehicle. Luckily enough that is what I did, otherwise I would be in a real mess right now.

I am well aware about the drive shaft need immediate attention. But after reading some threads about the 3 amigos, I'm kind of holding back.
I have a 1999 Disco II for sale in the rockford area. email me thebrownbunch96@comcast.net and I'll send pictures...
For your intended use, you may save a bundle by buying an '03. Even '03 models that have had engines replaced just don't bring that much money. It looks pretty much just like an '04 (roof rails are the biggest difference, and the lettering on the hood is slightly different), but does not have the CDL. I've seen NICE '03 trucks going for 6-8k. If you buy one with a few more miles on it you'll save even more and will have further-distanced yourself from the likelihood of suffering oil-pump failure. Just be careful not to buy within the VIN range that had the engine casting issues.
Nate from Bottorf fabrication was selling his in this price range, and it had some really sweet upgrades on it and I think it had a new(er) engine as a result of the oil pump issue. You may check with him to see if it's still available, I'd have no reservations about buying Nate's truck. http://www.bottorf-fabrication.com/
If you're willing to come down here to Louisville I can put you in touch with a guy that could locate you a really nice truck at the right price. He has some '03 trucks in inventory now. The owner (also named Nathan, LOL) is a Rover enthusiast and specializes in mainly just Rovers; he also has a full-time mechanic at his shop that is a LR-Certified Master Tech with over 9yrs experience at LR of Louisville.

Nathan's a good guy, I pop into his place with some frequency just to chat.
Good luck in your search. When I was looking I learned that it's easy to find Disco's for sale, but it's another thing altogether to find good Disco's for sale!
