2004 Discovery II with bad engine...any ideas?

Typically, evaluate the vehicle as though it is running and price it that way MINUS the cost of repair. If it is otherwise perfect and might be worth $12K but you have been told it will be $4K to replace the engine, ask $8K. Because it is not running a buyer cannot evaluate the rest of the vehicle (trans, diff, brakes,etc) so they are going to offer much less. I have passed up vehicles like yours priced at $3000.

$6000 less then the going price in your area, or more.

What if I had an engine to go with it? I know someone who has one. Or how cheap do you think I could get that engine installed?

$1200 to $1500 based on parts needed and with no other issues.
