2004 Discovery overheating
In need of help. My new to me 2004 disco with 82,000 miles is having some problems. Started with coolant being low when I bought it, so I added some. When I added some it started to spew out of the expansion tank. This went on for a couple of days. After those couple of days it’s started to overheat many times while driving down the road. Thinking it was a stuck thermostat I replaced it today with a 180° t-stat and a new line going from the engine to the t-stat. I also flushed the coolant system and added in 2 gallons of new peak 50/50 coolant and bled the system by unscrewing the bleeding screw on top of the radiator area. I went on a 50 mile drive and it ran perfect. However I went out tonight to dinner and all the sudden it started overheating again sitting at a red light. I pulled over immediately and found steam pouring out the spew hose on the expansion tank and coolant to be very low. I unscrewed the bleeder screw and steam constantly poured out. I added in more coolant and still overheated. Not sure where to go now. Need help!!
you’ve still got air in the system. Unscrewing the screw on the T junction will not completely bleed the system. You have to raise the expansion tank and use the screw on the T junction.
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll give that a shot once I limp the truck back home. Does that explain for the loss of coolant though?
Will do and will report back with results. Thanks for quick reply...
You might not be losing any, it could have never been filled properly.
was gonna go at it tonight but I guess I’ll hold off till the morning when it’s super stone cold.
