Default 2004 roof rack any use?

Quick question, are the roof bars any useful on the 2004? I rarely see anybody with anything on them, I own a roof box but it looks quite long for those short bars. I have read that the earlier bars may break (or was that just an advert argument to sell upgraded bars) but the 2004 ones appear beefier.
Any of you guys using them? What have you put on them?
Cheers
David

There’s gotta be someone who has used them for skis/snowboard attachments

The skinnier style of roof bars did have an oem extension piecs that could be installed to bring the rails all the way back to the end of the roof. Kinda hard to find but im not sure if the beefier roof bars had that kind of option.

I have a set of the extensions sitting on my shelf in the garage.

I have seen the extension bars for the 2003 and before bars. my friend just installed them on his 2003, great stuff! I will see and try to mount my roof box up there and see what it looks like. I might post a picture here for good laugh but I suspect it will look like it is WAY too long

I have a full Yakima set up including the load warrior and their crossbars and towers. But I still bought the LR front bars when I found them on eBay because they’re so hard to find. I haven’t decided how to use them yet, but I may move one of my box mounts from the load warrior basket and put it on that to make more room in the load worrier.
