Default 235/85R16 tires on 8J wheels

I've been wanting to run this size on my stock aluminum LR rims which are 8Jx16 (8in by 16 in). The width range for the tire size seems to be 6-7.5 inches. Anyone running this size on the 8Jx16 LR rims?

Thanks

You could certainly do it, but the tire isn't designed for it and it may not last as long. I'm running that size on a 7" rim so I can't say from experience how it will do. The tread will probably wear unevenly unless you find a sweet spot with tire pressure. If you run at lower psi than the tire "wants", heat can cause problems that will cause premature failure. Plus you may be more prone to lose a bead at very low pressure when off pavement. A better choice w/b 265-75 which is about the same height but wider and more appropriate for the 8" wheel. Many others run that size with the common 1.5-3" lift.

I would think 255/85 would be a better choice on an 8" wide rim

After your post and thinking of the increased potential of losing the bead when airing down, looks like I'm in for a set of 7Jx16 steel wheels. I'm so glad I found this forum!

I run 235/85-16 on my factory wheels. Never had an issue, mine are 10-ply, or load range E. I am due for a new set soon, I will be buying the same size again. This rigs a fricken tractor out over landing.
