Default 250,000 mile Disco 2

Hey Gents,

I purchased a 2000 Disco 2 a couple of months ago for $1300.00.
It's got 249,000 miles on it, and it runs like a champ. However... there may be a thing or two or 20 that needs some looking at.

I'm just going to buy another Disco, but I've got a couple questions because I cannot figure it out.

1. I've got a whiring sound coming from what seems like the front right. I know I need a new tie rod assembly, and I just put in a brand new drive shaft, the whiring does not seem to be consecutive with tire rotation speed, could my front axle be bad? I popped the fill cap off of it and stuck a magnet down as far as I could, no shavings.

2. I've got a ticking on idle. I cannot determine the source of the sound exactly, but it sounds similar to a bad injector or an exhaust valve maybe. Any common issues that I should know of?

3. My tranny is leaking. I will replace the filter, transmission pan gasket and such soon, but is there any other common place that it would leak from?
Also, since I started driving it, it kind of clunks into 3rd gear.

I am mechanically inclined and was once a Jaguar Tech, so I know my way around things a bit, but I do not have many years experience, particularly with Land Rovers. So if there are any LR specific acronyms, it's likely I do not know them.

Thanks dudes!

The tranny is apparently the same as some 90's jaguars...

Thanks Pinky, I'll read up on it. Unfortunately I never worked on the 90's Jags. Only the 2000's and not for that long either.

Some folks argue slipped liner sleeve for engine tick. Other's contend bad rockers. Does engine tick only occur at idle? Or, does the tick flare up when engine temp breaks the 200f mark?

It's only at idle as near as I can tell and is not temperature dependent.

Does the whining noise sound like this?

If so it might be a bad bearing in one of your pulleys

Hey, thanks for the video. It's nothing near that loud. It almost sounds like a bad wheel bearing, except that it is not a consistent enough sounds to be a wheel bearing (I don't think). I hear nothing until about 10 mph and then I get a sounds that oscillates in frequency. Kinda like woosh-WOOSH-woosh-WOOSH-woosh-WOOSH-woosh-WOOSH. That's my best written description.

My best guess is that it's coming from either the front hub or differential.
