Default 255/40/18 tyres

Will there be any problems fitting 255/40/18 tyres on a Discovery 2 td5? I only ask because they're a lot cheaper.

What is the height? That sounds like a small tire. As I recall, the stock tire is 255/55 - 18. I run 265/60 - 18.

Yeah sorry I forgot to say, the tyres currently are 255/55/18.

It reduces the diameter by 3" (1.5" each side), according to a wheel size calculator.
Just wondering if there's any reason not to?

Most people go taller/larger. The question is why would you go smaller? Especially when the stock size is a bit too small IMO.

Just the price. I can get 40 profile for half the price.

It’ll bring your diffs 1.5” lower to the ground and throw your speedo of pretty significantly along with changing your gear ratio since the tire is significantly smaller. Same effect as going higher but obviously opposite direction.

Tires last a fair amount of time and keep you safe in the road. Not something I’d skimp on personally but you do you. It’ll look goofy af to have a passenger tire on a big body suv. If you do go this route, make sure the load rating is high enough for the disco’s weight.

I'd be very concerned that a smaller tire would not have the proper load rating to support the weight of a Discovery.

Some very good points there. I'll have to bite the bullet on this one.

Cheers for the help guys!
