Default 265-75-16 Tire Too Big (D1)?

Is a 265-75-16 Tire too big for a 95 Discovery with a 2" OME HD Lift?

Right now I am trying to decide which tires to buy:
245-75-16 9.64" wide x 30.5" Tall
235-85-16 9.25" wide x 31.7" Tall
265-70-16 10.43" wide x 30.6" Tall
265-75-16 10.43" wide x 31.6" Tall

thanks

I would lean towards 245/75, or 265/70. Unless you were planning on addressing gears, brakes etc.... I think those 2 sizes would give you the looks you're looking for without compromising the power and fonctionality of your rig as much as the bigger diameter tires. If it was mine, 265/70. Height of the 245/75, but the fatness of the 265/75. as a mather of fact, that's the size I'm running.

General Grabbers AT/2 in size 265/70-16 on 16X8 inch rims. I Drive a D2 with an Old man Emu 2 inch lift. I'll try and find pics....

Here you go, a bit old ( almost 2 years) but its one where you see the tires with the lift on level ground. gives an idea of the looks and tire clearance. Keep in mind that General Grabbers AT/2 in size 265/70-16, are the biggest of that size available, with an oberall diameter of 30.9 inches.

darover, that looks good. That's the set up I want for my rover, but I'm worried the 2" lift will decrease my towing capacity.

Darover - Those look great. How do you like the Generals? I have been torn between going with the flow and getting the BFG AT KO's or getting the Grabbers.

It looks like I can run that size.. the rims are 7"

Did you change out the spare with one of these as well? Does it fit on the spare tire carrier without modification?

Matt,
What are you using the truck for?
A 265 should fit a D1, may need some trimming.
You will loose about 2 MPG in town going that large, much less a lot of low end power.

Mike is right about the loss of m.p.g, that is one of the reason why I went with 265/70 instead of 265/75. Less effect on gearing, braking and fuel economy. I might have lost 1 m.p.g instead of 2.

As far as a spare goes, yes I got one in the back also. I had to remove the tire carrier and drill holes about 5/8 inch lower to clear the bumper. another older picture before the light guards. I wouldn't have it any other way. If you can't afford to get 5, wait till you can. A different size spare makes a set-up look cheesy.

I've had the older version of the BFG A/T, and the Generals are far superior, but I can't compare with the AT KO. I find them to be much quieter than any other all terrain I've ever had, and did excellent on ice and in the record setting snowfalls that we had up here in Canada last winter. and they are almost half the price of the BFG. So I wouldn't even consider any other make right now. When I'm happy with somethig, I stick with it.

I've used the trailer quite a bit and cannot see how a lift would affect towing. Haven'tnoticed a diifference at all.

I have a 96 D1 and a 2" lift and I have 265/75/16 Mastercraft mud terrains and I had to trim a little on the front bumper and on the back side of the rear wheel metal. I do not know how to load a picture or I would include one.

mike - I use the truck for a mixture of in-town driving (hauling the kids around) and off road. I want a tire capable enough off road and am willing to sacrifice a few MPG for that purpose.

thanks
