Default 2meter/70cm ham radio

Is anyone running a dual band ham radio in his Discovery? If so, how are you making use of it? I'm thinking of installing one center ceiling and am interested to hear about their usefulness for communications and also for integrating with a tablet for mapping with topos, etc. Thanks.

@dcaven I run a Kenwood 710 with APRS (paired with an ancient Garmin Etrex). Pretty much everyone up here in Canada runs VHF so it gets used all time. I run tail end for our group, letting the leader know if anyone breaks down and when everyone clears tricky turns.

ARPS was for my wife works peace of mind reasonably well, lots spots where it fades due lack of repeaters or mountains though. Given lack of cell coverage it is a handy device, the new satellite devices are pretty low priced so that may replace the APRS functions
